Medieval village on a hilltop, BOLGHERI is only 3,5 miles away from the seaside and midway between Florence and Grosseto. This bunch of houses all surrounded by ancient walls (which was common for defensive purposes in the tuscan region) is mostly famous for three reasons:
–  the almost 5 km long cypress-trees boulevard, the longest in the world;
–  to have hosted for a few years the poet GIOSUE’ CARDUCCI, who wrote the poem “DAVANTI SAN GUIDO”;
–  and to be the “place of birth” of the SASSICAIA red wine.

How came that a small area dedicated to the SANGIOVESE grapes variety as it was BOLGHERI since the beginning of the world, has become the most important area in Tuscany for the production of wine of the finest quality?
The answer is: turning the “business” from the SANGIOVESE into the CABERNET FRANC and CABERNET SAUVIGNON varieties.
The brief history of an important person, MARCHESE LEOPOLDO INCISA DELLA ROCCHETTA, will help guests to have a better understanding on this matter.
The tour also includes a late morning wine tasting at one of the “top Five” wineries of Bolgheri followed by lunch at a restaurant chosen on the day between two, both serving fantastic tuscan fresh food. After lunch guests will take part to the visit of the cellars and wine tasting at the second winery located in BOLGHERI before heading back to Florence.
The 9 hrs BOLGHERI tour includes: 2 wine
